Why I admire Paris

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

Okay, okay, I know she’s not an angel but let me say my view first before you give me that venomous look.

The reason why I admire Paris is that she uses her fame to earn more money. She didn’t have to work her ass out in order to get some dime. We all knew she’s got more than she wants already. But she doesn’t stop there. There are spoiled brats out there who doesn’t work but just depend on their parents’ wealth but not Paris. Do you see what I mean? We know she can’t sing as good as Celine or Madonna but her little talent in singing she also uses to earn more. And people do buy her albums.

She may be an Guiness record breaker as “famous for being famous” but she uses that to make more money. Isn’t she smart? She knows there are people out there who look up to her for being her and so she makes her own product lines such as perfumes and a wig. Oh lala!! Anyway, this is why I admire her.

Julia Roman Abueva

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

I remember the first time I heard this great little singer was when she sang for the opening of the Southeast Asian Games 2005 which was hosted by the Philippines.

I was impressed that at 9 years she could already perform in a big event.

That time I was teaching in Thailand and one of my ESOL pupils expressed his admiration to Julia and he even wished to meet her.

I know there are many children prodigies out there in the world and they just need exposure to be acclaimed worldwide.

Julia is one of the Filipino prodigies that has garnered the admiration in the neighboring countries of southeast Asia. As I have googled for her name I found that she was also asked to perform the 13th ASEAN Summit 2007 in Singapore .

Such a talented girl.  Kudos Julia!

Facial creams and other beauty products

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

Facial creams just don’t work for me particularly commercial ones. I’m better off not washing my face even with just plain water. My face started to get sensitive after I went swimming for 6 hours when I was 15 years old. From 9 am to 3 pm I stayed in the salty water leaving for only half an hour to fill my hungry stomach and back again. It was a typical sunny day in Palawan and I just loved to be submerged in the cool water. It was such a nice treat after months of confining ourselves in the classroom. It was a school outing.

Anyway, when we got back to the school campus that afternoon I was burnt. My face especially my nose was bright red all over.  The next couple days my arms developed tiny blisters but they didn’t hurt. I even laughed them away. But when I went home on that weeked, my mother was so shocked at my appearance and got so upset. She said that I wasn’t careful of myself and that I got prohibited to go near the sea again.

A couple of weeks later my face started to peel off and I got impatient. I put stingy facial lotion that made things worse rather than help it.

For the next 10 years I got plagued by skin irritation like rashes, pimples, allergies and other skin problems all on my face. Talcum powder became irritant and so are facial soaps even the mildest ones. I was getting deppressed. When I finished college my mother sent me to a dermatologist who administered oral, topical, and internal medicines all to cure my skin problem. It cost us a fortune but they didn’t help.

Finally I heard of E.Excel products whose target was the immune system rather than the outward result. For a while my skin condition got better. But I got so much scar on my face that a friend insisted I used her soap which didn’t contain chemicals. But it made my face worse. It burned my skin again and I have to go to another dermatologist.

Finally, when I got to Thailand, my facial condition didn’t escape the scrutiny of my colleauge, Jarunee. She recommended a set of products that I would use for the night, for the day, and for washing. I was hesitant and apprehensive at first but decided to give it a try. Fortunately, my face got better and I after the first set I got a second one.

My face has never looked so good but the trace of the pimples are still there. I tried to use Vitamin C products but they proved useless. Finally, I decided to just stick to water to clean my face.

What food promotes weight lose for you

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

I have always been doubtful with weight-lose programs. I have friends who have tried several ways but none seemed to work. And I always wonder why weigh-lose diets just don’t work with everybody despite what the promoters claim. Not to mention I hate it when they use celebrities to promote their products.  It’s a blatant lie. Food is everyone’s enemy who’s into weigh-watching. And I also wonder why I gain weight even if I only eat fruits.

It’s through these observations and experiences that I searched non-stop for an answer until I find one that satisfies my query.

I heard a long time ago that some foods combined may not give a positive result.  But I thought that I may need some especial equipments to experiment on which foods can be combined. Example is vitamins ACE is very beneficial to skin. And I wanted to know the other vitamin combinations that would benefit our body the most.

Finally, one day I typed on the search box “Food Combining” and was surprised by what I found. Although what I got was not exactly what I was looking for but I found a very important and useful information.

According to the article we should not combine starch and protein because they require different enzymes to be digested. I believe this is very important to note especialy for weight watchers.

On top of this food combination information my husband found a book in the library called “Eat Right 4 Your Type” which gave me answers why my stomack acts the way it does when I eat certain foods. I have always thought I hust had a crappy digestive system. But now I understand my stomach better. It’s got something to do with my blood type as what the author of the book said.

Eat Right 4 Your Type explains that we hve different dietary needs  according to our blood type. It includes what foods are highly beneficial and which ones to avoid.  Accordingly, some foods are medicine to one but could be a poison to another.

The power of these two information could be the answer to everyone’s quest for a hight effective weight-lose method.

When life plays on us

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

I dropped my stuff in the gym and headed to the bank before noontime comes. When I got back to the gym I was relieved that the exercise bikes were not in use. I rushed to the ladies’ room to change but it took me longer than expected as I had to frantically search for the locker key.

I feared I must have lost it in the city center when I took out the paper from my bag earlier. But how come I didn’t hear any sound if ever I dropped the key. I turned the bag inside out and was announcing that I had officially lost the key. But I wasn’tgiving up hope yet.  I felt my cellphone pouch just in case. Lo and behold there was a lump inside. Whew! But how did it get in there?

I finaly got dressed and entered the big exercise room. To my utter dismay all the exercise bikes were in used now.  I thought I saw them empty earlier.  Where have all those people come from suddenly?  I had no other choice. I went to the other equipment that nobody wanted to use. And guess what? Just when I had finished, everyone finished too.

Sorry we don’t accept credit cards

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

We were queuing up at the cashier to pay for our groceries.  The cashier was currently scanning so many items for the couple who seemed like doing their shopping for the whole month. Yes, they bought so much. Finally, comes paying time the woman took out her credit card to pay. Unfortunately, Lidl is not accepting credit cards but debit cards. The couple looked surprised and a little fidgety. Apparently the debit card didn’t have enough fund in it and they needed to get some cash out from their credit card.  All eyes were staring at them anxious of what’s gonna happen next. They had to leave their groceries and go get some money elsewhere. And there was no ATM nearby.

I could feel what the couple was going through that very moment. Surely, nobody ever wants to be in that type of a situation. Some people in the shop followed them with their eyes as the embarrassed couple hurried out to their car.

One time I went to buy bananas which are 78 pence per kilogram. I buy them every week so I know exactly how much they cost. I didn’t bother to take with me my wallet as it was too bulky. I just took enough pennies with me. I took a big bunch and went to the cashier to pay. Alas it was 90 pence. I was shocked and red with embarrassment. You know how much pennies I had with me. I asked the cashier to take out some bananas as I only had 78 pence. But the kind cashier told me to just pay him whatever I have got. I was much relieved but of course embarrassed at my stupidity. Good thing it was almost closing time and there were only a couple of customers inside and the one behind me was a young boy who probably didn’t care what was going on.

What had happened here was to give us all a lesson, me, the couple, and Lidl. With me I should always bring more money than I needed just in case the price went up that day. The couple should have known or asked first thing if the shop accepts credit card

Remembering 9/11

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

It was hot as usual on this same day 7 years ago in Ubon Ratchatani. I finished my morning routine and went to the nearby computer shop. I wasn’t paying much attention when yahoo homepage opened up but for sure I saw a blown-up building. I logged in to my messenger and said Hello to an online friend in the US. Then he told me, “Did you see the news today?” Only then did I become aware of the tragedy.

That same day, my roommate who was an American went out to visit a Cambodian temple within Thailand territory. She didn’t come home until late at night. We were all so paranoid and worried about her. But she seemed so relax and unaffected. She said that she feels shielded everything similar things happen. What a faith!

Seven years have passed since the tragedy. The emotional scar is still visible in many people in America. I can still feel the eeriness in the air whenever this day comes every year. Many innocent people lost their lives. And the battle is still going on to fight for them. Ah, when will this ever end?

Wanting to save money and ended up spending more

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

In his rush to get to work, Francesco forgot the cooker on.  He was always been careful with things like this and always notices the switch if they are on. But this particular day, fate played fould on him.

I usually get my breakfast right after he leaves for work when he is in the morning shift. But this time I stayed longer in bed and got up at 9 AM. Looking in the cupboard I was going to grab the granola and warm it but I decided I better finish the leftover pasta from last night. I went back to the room and got online.

Two hours later I decided it’s time for gym so I went back to the kitchen to fill my water bottle.  Reaching for the pitcher that was next to the cooker I felt something warm. To my surprise, the smallest burner was on and even if it was in the lowest, looking at the clock, it had been on for more than 5 hours. My heart sank at the thought of wasted gas and money.

I tried to recall if I turned it on but I used the microwave to heat my food.  There are three of us in the house, Felipe, Francesco and Me. Felipe is always in the morning shift. I was curious which of them must have left the burner on.

I thought of texting Francesco but I know it was gonna anger him and he might get distracted at work.  So I told myself that I would wait till he gets home.

At 1 pm I got back from the gym and made lunch. The thought of wasted gas was disturbing me as it could have cooked two pans of chicken soup and more.  At last Francesco came but I thought that it was not a good timing to tell him about it. So I fed him first and asked him if he used the cooker in the morning. When he affirmed it I broke the news. He was in disbelief.  Finally, he confessed, “Maybe because I was rushing because I was running late. I used the bike to save money…” He sighed. He didn’t continue his sentence but I knew what’s in his mind. He wanted to save money but he ended up spending more.

Sometimes we tend to do commit the worst mistakes for wanting to make things perfect. Then we blame and curse ourselves for being inadequate and inefficient. We get so hard on ourselves as if we had done nothing right.  But instead of wasting time dwelling on our mistake let’s just try to learn a lesson from it.

We’re still here

Published by blogsmith under Uncategorized Edit This

Yesterday there was speculation that the world might come to its end when they switch on the Large Hadron Collider. But we manage to survive this day. The Bible is true. The end of the world is not known to man, not even the angels.
