What’s the best way to avoid ID fraud?

Published by blogsmith under News Bits Edit This

According to yahoo news, the best way to beat ID fraud is to “Smash your PC with a hammer”. What? Did you say hammer? Yes, and make sure every bit it is irreparable especially the hard drive.  Because PC is like a safety vault where people keep some highly valuable information, ID theft could buy old PCs where they can gain access to the former owner’s personal information like credit cards used for online shopping. According to Which?, a review and comparison site, merely deleting data is not enough as fraudsters could still retrieve them in the hard drive.

It’s funny how a couple of days ago I actually thought to myself, what if my laptop is stolen and then they can get access to my accounts e.g paypal, alertpay, and other sites because I use firefox and save all passwords so I won’t forget them. Losing a password is not as dangerous as someone else finding it. If you lose it, you can retrieve it again but if someone found it then you’re in big trouble.

The same is true with personal information that’s kept in the hard drive. So the best way to destroy information in your computer is to destroy the hard drive itself.
