He said to the right but it was on my left

The other day my husband told me there was a pair of shoes in a shop next to bank where he went. He said it was to the right but he was using his left hand. I was so baffled but didn’t say anything and thought I would find the shop anyway. It’s good he said that the shop was in the corner. When I went to the city center I was surprised to find the shop on my left.  Well, the shop was to the right of the bank but if I’m facing it then it’s on my left. I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing or just men and women are differently wired so they talk differently especially describing location.

I probably am the most easily disoriented woman on earth. I can never figure out where is north especially if I’m new to the place and I don’t know where the sun rises.

Anyway, I am fascinated that other languages have a high efficiency with directions because they use it to locate everything. For example in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, if you get on a motor cab and tell them you’re going to Magsaysay street, the driver would ask you which side of the street exactly, north or south or east or west.

It would be good if I can learn how to use directions. I figured it’s going to benefit me a lot especially if I am in a metered taxi, isn’t it? Some cab drivers would try to take you around in order to get more money from you. But this is just going to be useful if you know exactly where you are headed. Otherwise you rely at the mercy of the cab driver to take you where you want to go.
